Tournament Briefing
Thursday 19th June 2025
Tournament briefing (for athletes and trainers): 6:00pm at the venue.
This is an informal briefing session for boxers and trainers by the Tournament Director and covers the tournament structure, trainer requirements and an opportunity for Q&A’s.
Recommended, but not compulsory.

Compulsory Weigh-In
Friday 20th June - all Boxers and Trainers
7:00am – 9:00am There will be a single compulsory weigh-in on the morning of the first day of the competition for all boxers, no exceptions. (Dehydration and resultant boxer collapse is one of the most dangerous aspects of the sport. A single weigh-in aims to eliminate this factor. Nominate your fighting weight from the start.)

Doors open for spectators 30 minutes before the session start.
Tickets available at the door and at event bright
Boxers must be available all 2 days. Any requests to fight on a certain day/session or corner colour requests will not be considered.

Each competitor is required to pay a registration fee of $160 AUD

All Boxers must be registered with Masters Boxing New Zealand (MBNZ) or Masters Boxing Australia (MBA). You will require an MBA or MBNZ membership number when completing your online entry into the event. Please note that MBNZ and MBA memberships are annual and fall due on January 1 each year. 2024 members need to renew their membership for 2025.

All division winners will be awarded the Masters Boxing New Zealand Golden Gloves Title. Open Class winners receive the Belt and Combat Class – Medals

All Boxers will compete as Masters Boxers

All Boxers will wear 16oz gloves. MBI Approved
-
Gloves and headgear will be provided. You can use your own headgear provided its open face and approved by the head gloving steward.

You will need a medical clearance (Fitness to Box) and serology results, both current within 12 months of 21th June 2025, red and blue singlet, cup protector and mouthguard. Shorts must have a clear (white preferred) band at the top. Black shorts are allowed. Black singlets also, however if both corners have black, red corner gets the preference to wear it and blue corner must change to a blue singlet.

Tournament Draw: Following the compulsory weigh-in/medical, a tournament draw will be posted at about 12pm on Friday June 20th allowing for a 2 pm start.

A doctor will be available 1 hour before the start of the 1st session each day. All boxers must be passed by the Doctor to fight.

Former Professional Boxers cannot compete at the NZ Golden Gloves if they have fought professionally within the last 24 months.

Trainers must be over the age of 16. Only one trainer will be allowed in the ring before, during, and after the bout. Trainer will need to be MBNZ accredited.

MBNZ Golden Gloves bouts are judged using a professional and fair system based on international protocols. All decisions are final.

The competition is presented and organised by Masters Boxing New Zealand and sanctioned by Masters Boxing International.
